New Duds

I am poor.

I need to remind myself of that constantly, otherwise I will go out and spend every penny I have on new clothes and shoes and be homeless within three weeks. Instead, I window shop like a mofo and make extravagant wishlists in my head.

But sometimes, sometimes, every couple months, when I've been good, I will splurge on myself. These splurges usually entail a lunch break shopping spree because I work right next door to a shopping center with a wide array of stores where I can do serious damage.

I thought I'd share a couple of the things I purchased recently with you, if for no other reason but for you to tell me how cute they are and then I won't feel so bad about spending the money.

Red chiffon top by Decapolis. Purchased from 344. It covers a lot, but it's very sheer which makes it very sexy. Plus I love the color.

Grey sequined dress by Moon Collection. Also purchased at 344.
Where am I ever going to wear this dress? Does it matter? The answers are, "Who cares?" and, "Nope." I saw it and I had to have it.

Last, but most certainly not least, I HAD to show you my new shoes.

I'd been eyeing these bad boys at Aldo for about a month. When pay day finally came around, I knew it was time. I've already worn them out twice and have gotten so many compliments on them. The best part is, because of the platform and the sturdy heel, they're super comfortable. I danced all night the last time I wore them. Which is exactly what shoes like this are made for.

The next time I go shopping, I'll be sure to share my haul with you!

Have you splurged on yourself lately?

Tangerine Dream

Oh my goodness.

You guys. Have you ever experienced love at first sight? I always thought it was an idea made up for movies and romance novels. But then today I experienced it for myself and I can tell you - it's the real thing.

Behold the object of my desire...

Yes, it's a dress.

An absolutely stunningly beautiful dress.

I love every single thing about it. The vibrant color, the gold embroidered embellishments, the deep V in the back. It's ladylike and demure, while still being eye-catching and sexy.

I found it on Anthropologie.com. Lucky for me there is a huge Anthropologie about a block away from my office. Guess where I'm stopping after work tonight?

Let's get real, I can't afford this dress. It's $358.00. But I just want to try it on and feel it against my skin. Admire the way it pinches in at the waist and flows out from there. Then I'll stand in front of the huge mirror staring at myself for 25 minutes while I imagine a world where I can drop $358.00 on a dress without blinking an eye and all the amazing places I'd be able to wear it.

I want.

ModCloth Wish List

I love ModCloth.

You guys already know this about me, so that's not really news.

I check the site multiple times a day to view the newest frocks, vote in their amazing Be the Buyer program, and add even more into my shopping cart. I have a wish list that's 5 pages long and counting. In my head I already own all of these items and I imagine all the fabulous places I'll go and things I'll do while I'm wearing a dress picked directly from my fantasy wardrobe.
I mean LOOK at these shoes! I die.

Believe it or not - and let's be honest, this is a big, fat NOT - summer is already drawing to a close. And while I'm enjoying soaking up every ray of sunshine my pale porcelain skin can handle, I've got one eye on the fall fashions and my (fantasy) fall wardrobe.

Fall is my favorite season by far. There's something romantic about a warm, sunny day that turns into a breezy afternoon and ends in a chilly evening snuggled on the couch with someone special. I love the leaves, the smells, the colors, the textures. Everything. And I want my wardrobe to reflect all of that. So here are some of the pieces in my dream wardrobe from ModCloth that I will own one day.
On a warmer day, paired with skinny jeans and ballet flats.

Imagine this one with a red cardigan, grey tights and my grey Mary Janes with the little bows on them.

Chocolate tights, nude pumps and this necklace:
And how pretty and romantic is this shirt?

I want to go apple picking and pair this dress...
With dark tights and these amazing boots:

This one...With a long, soft cardigan and gold flats.

This amazing motorcycle jacket (I am dying over the color!), over this feminine and flowy dress.

Can't you see it with long, gold rope necklaces and dark brown booties?

This gorgeous sweater dress paired with tights and calf-high boots for brunch, shopping and an afternoon curled up with a wonderful book.

How perfect for cocktails out with the girls, right?
Hair pulled up, sparkly earrings, sparkly shoes. Perfect.

Paired with a black turtle neck and black shiny patent leather pumps.
Hellooooo, Joan Halloway!

I just love the simplicity of this these little cream dress. It's just Pretty.
Yes, with a capital P.
And these. I mean.. I just.. Come on, it's not even fair.

Alright, spill. Which fall fashions do you have your eye (and heart set) on?

Academy Awards

My favorite Sunday of the year. It's the Superbowl, World Series, and Stanley Cup all rolled into one. OSCAR NIGHT! The Oscars were a couple days ago, but I'm still glowing from their aftermath. The glitz, the glamour, the films. I can't get enough.

I was so excited to see Anne Hathaway (one of my favs!) and James Franco host this year. I didn't know what to expect but I was holding out hope that they'd surprise us all and be amazing. I shouldn't have held my breath. I think the highlight of their hosting was Franco hulking out in a full Gentlemen Prefer Blondes get-up. Sadly it only lasted approximately 7 seconds.

All that aside, I thought the show was great. Most of the actors and films I was rooting for won and I got to drink a lot of wine with my friends. Good night, no? All that's left is to share my (not so) expert opinion on this year's Oscar fashion.

Confession: I am not a fan of Scarlett Johansson. I think she's completely overrated as an actress and Ryan Reynolds (swoon!) can do a lot better. So is it bad that when I saw her show up on the red carpet wearing...that, I omitted a tiny squeal of glee because I thought she looked so horrible?

God. Damn. The woman is going to be 66 years old. SIXTY SIX! She is practically flawless. Maybe it's something about a Vivienne Westwood gown and the way it drapes over a woman's curves, but I can only hope that when I get to be her age I am half as sophisticated, and sexy, as she is.

Yikes.
That is all.

Hi, Marissa. While you look amazing for your age, you are 47. And it is not the prom.

Even to people that know me very well, my obsession with Celine Dion makes little sense.
(Unless you're James. Then you'd understand because you share the obsession.)
She is like a strange, gorgeous French Canadian alien that came down to grace us with her presence. When I heard she'd be singing at the Academy Awards I was ecstatic. Then she showed up in this dress by Giorgio Armani Prive and I died. How beautiful!

I usually love Amy Adams red carpet choices. This is no different, I think the dress is absolutely stunning, but the styling is way, way off. I read that her Cartier jewelry is worth over $1.25 million, but it's just too much. Hair up and some more simple stud earrings and this look would have been a top contender.

I just about died when I saw Cate Blanchett walk onto the red carpet. And I mean that in the best possible way. People either loved or hated this Givenchy Couture dress, and I'm happy to say I am wholeheartedly in the first group. I think Cate looks unbelievable.

I can't say I'm really feeling this look, Annie. I love that you embrace your pale skin and dark hair (I embrace mine, too!), but this just makes you look washed out and tired. And the dress, I know it's vintage Valentino, but I think you could have done better. Luckily you made up for it during the broadcast. Honestly, out of all your looks, this was my favorite:
Lanvin tuxedo and sparkling Brian Atwood heels? Yes, please.

And finally, my pick for best dressed of the evening...

Mila Kunis is lovely and sexy as all hell in Elie Saab Haute Couture.
It's kind of not fair that some people are that good looking.

P.S. Thank you Perez for all of the photos!

Spring Fever

Another blustery, cold week here in Boston. I love winter, I love the beautiful snow, but this is the time of year when I'm just...kind of...over it. When the snow starts melting and everything looks dirty and grey. Not pretty. Not fun.

I'm so looking forward to spring. Not only is everything green and blooming and sun-shiney, but I love a spring wardrobe. We'll start peeling off our thick winter layers and step out in light, airy springtime duds. I can't wait!

I've been eyeing spring frocks in shop windows and online for weeks now. Here are some of my favorites from ModCloth that I'm jonesing to buy.

Bring it on, Spring!

Golden Globes!

It's my second favorite time of year - Awards Season!

The Golden Globes were earlier tonight. My roommates and game day food - buffalo chicken dip, guacamole, and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.
This
is the playoffs, people.

There were no big surprises. Many of the performances I was rooting for won and I, for one, thought Ricky Gervais was fantastic. But let's focus on the most important part. The fashion. Here are the
women that left a lasting impression on me in all the right, and wrong, ways.

Ugh. No. NO. This is actually kind of sad to me.
I feel like I'm looking at a bride who got left at the altar.

I love this dress. Love. It's ethereal and so romantic. I wish Sandra's hair was up, maybe curled a little bit, a little softer. But over all I think she looks stunning.

I want to like this dress, I really do. But I think it's awful. The color is great, but I think the fact that it's made of all those little ropes is gimmicky. I also think her breasts look terrible. They look kind of saggy, flattened down and smushed together in the center.

Love this dress. Love the cut. Love the color. Claire Dane's hair and makeup are perfect, as are her accessories. Love everything about this look.

This monstrosity speaks for itself.
Worst dressed of the evening by far.
Also, does Xtina have a bun in the oven? But, really?

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!
I die.

Anyone who knows me knows I have a girl crush on Anne Hathaway, but this takes it to a whole new level. She is perfection here. The side swept hair, natural makeup, the cut of the gown on her frame. Flawless.

I can't wait until they bring out the big guns for the Academy Awards next month!

A Very ModCloth Christmas Party

Remember when I bought this dress?
Well now you can see how the finished product turned out when I wore it to my company's holiday party.

I styled it with black pantyhose (not tights - little girls wear tights, my friends, women wear pantyhose), black pumps, and an amazing little rhinestone encrusted belt I found at thrift store somewhere. Hair up to so as not to distract from the dress, and no necklace to show off my shoulders/collarbone. Sparkly earrings and festive red lips topped it off.

What do you think? Would you have styled it differently?

p.s. Thank youuuuu, ModCloth!

Pretty Things

I am a happy girl today. Very happy. But more on that later! Right now all I want to share with you is my latest purchase.

Isn't it so pretty? I've been eyeing this dress for weeks, and today the perfect opportunity to wear it presented itself. I couldn't resist!

This gorgeous frock is from one of my favorite sites, ModCloth.com. I wasn't sure about the sizing of this dress - on the site it said it runs a little small - so I called and spoke to one of their representatives and she gave me the measurements. I ended up getting a size up from what I normally would and I think it's going to work out just fine. The girl I spoke to was super helpful, and the dress is shipping out tomorrow so I should have it by Friday. I can't wait to get my hands on it and try it on!

Style Inspiration: Audrey Hepburn in "Charade"

I know, I know - Audrey is a style icon in her own right. She always has, and probably always will, have a huge influence on me when it comes to fashion. However I recently watched the movie Charade for the first time (thanks for the recommendation, Fina!) and Oh. My. Goodness.

The movie itself was fantastic - great plot, fast paced and slick, and the witty banter between Hepburn and Grant is perfection. But the clothes. The clothes! In the opening credits they proudly proclaim that Ms. Hepburn's clothing was styled and provided entirely by Givenchy, so I knew it would be good. But seriously?
Let's just take a look, shall we?

That yellow coat? I die.

I need to go shopping.
